Case No. #1380
Periodic Atmospheric Color Modulation, Rapid Mineral Crystallization Anomalies, Localized Thermal Disturbances, and High-Frequency Acoustic Phenomena in the Danakil Depression, Afar Region, Ethiopia
Summary
On September 18, 2019, periodic atmospheric color modulation was observed in the salt lake region around the Dallol volcano in Ethiopia's Afar Region. This modulation shifted into unnatural hues of green, purple, and orange, synchronized with the rapid transformation and recrystallization of specific salt and sulfur crystals. The site recorded unmeasurable high-frequency noise and localized thermal anomalies, causing frequent, unexplained malfunctions in survey equipment. Authorities deem continuous monitoring and further investigation necessary, as this phenomenon cannot be explained by ordinary geological or meteorological activities.
Details
On September 18, 2019, at 14:17, initial anomalies were recorded in the salt lake complex approximately 5 km northeast of the Dallol volcano in the Afar Region. An automated observation camera, installed by a geological survey team, captured the sky above undergoing atmospheric color modulation for approximately 15 minutes, changing from green to purple, then to orange. Simultaneously, the ambient temperature in the vicinity rapidly increased from 45 to 60 degrees Celsius.
This phenomenon continued to be observed irregularly and periodically. Particularly noteworthy is the rapid morphological change of specific salt lake surfaces and surrounding salt crystals, which occurred concurrently with the atmospheric color modulation. Repeated micro-recrystallization, unexplainable by normal crystal growth, was observed, with sulfur components showing similar transformations. Analysis of satellite imagery from the past several decades revealed no data suggesting such large-scale atmospheric optical changes or geological transformations in this area. However, local tribes possess oral traditions of "the sky singing and the earth changing colors" during specific periods.
Authorities dispatched a detailed investigation team in March 2020. However, during the phenomenon's occurrence, high-frequency, tinnitus-like sounds were observed, and some investigators reported temporary loss of balance. Furthermore, precision instruments such as ground-penetrating radar and spectrometers abruptly ceased function or experienced data loss without showing excessive heat or electromagnetic interference.
Collected salt crystal samples yielded contradictory results with standard geological dating methods, and some samples began to rapidly revert to their original crystal structure or decompose shortly after collection. This peculiar behavior remains unexplainable by known geochemical processes. Authorities have not yet found conclusive evidence from previous chemical analyses.
Additionally, multiple investigators reported experiencing temporary visual distortions and altered depth perception during the phenomenon. This suggests that the recorded high-frequency acoustic phenomena might be affecting not only auditory perception but also other sensory areas of the brain. Ethologists also reported testimonies from wildlife observers indicating unusual excitement or avoidance behaviors in local fauna during these events.
The observed phenomena are unexplainable by ordinary geological, meteorological, or chemical factors. The composite occurrence of high-frequency acoustics, localized thermal anomalies, and inexplicable equipment malfunctions particularly highlights the unique nature of this incident. Authorities are currently exploring the possibilities of electromagnetic environmental factors, tectonic activity, and unidentified geophysical influences in the region.

Witness Testimony
Witness A (Geological Surveyor)When reviewing the camera footage, I couldn't believe my eyes as the sky vividly changed from green to purple. Simultaneously, intense heat rose from the ground, giving me a burning sensation on my skin.
Local Resident BThat place has long been called 'the land where the sky sings.' When you approach it at certain times, a faint sound echoes deep in your ears, and the salt mountains transform as if alive.
Investigator C (Physicist)The ground-penetrating radar and spectrometer froze simultaneously. The logs showed no record of abnormal heat or electromagnetic surges. The data simply vanished as if it never existed.
Kyu's Analysis
This phenomenon suggests a complex interplay between unknown activities deep within the Earth and atmospheric events. Continuous observation and consideration of factors beyond current physical laws are imperative.
