Summary

On the night of August 17, 2020, strange roars and violent tree shaking were reported from the forests of Graham Island, Haida Gwaii, Canada. Multiple witnesses observed a large, dark, humanoid or ape-like shadow disappearing into the depths of the forest. Authorities' investigation team found traces but no decisive evidence. This incident is linked to a being known as 'Booker' in local Haida traditions, but its true nature remains unexplained.

Details

On August 17, 2020, several hikers at a campsite near Lake Kaosta on Graham Island heard an unusual roar. The sound differed from known animal calls, combining a low, guttural growl with a high-pitched, piercing shriek. Shortly thereafter, a tall, black shadow, over 2 meters in height, briefly appeared at the forest's edge, approximately 100 meters from the campsite.

Similar reports came from not only campsite users but also guests at nearby lodges. The shadow was consistently described as 'jet-black,' 'enormous,' and 'human-like but clearly not human.' The region holds the Haida tradition of the 'Booker,' described as a spirit dwelling in the forest's depths, misleading travelers, or a hidden beast. Unofficial sightings have been reported sporadically in the past.

The authorities' investigation team conducted an extensive search of the reported area the following day. Unnaturally snapped saplings and several indentations resembling large animal footprints, inconsistent with known species, were identified. Specifically, the alleged footprints were elongated, significantly larger than typical human feet, and clearly showed five distinct toes.

However, their depth and shape differed from those of known bears or wolves. Attempts to collect samples were made, but the wet soil yielded no conclusive DNA residue for analysis. Recorded roars also failed to match any existing animal databases, making sound source identification extremely difficult.

Witness testimonies were detailed and consistent, yet no objective visual evidence remained. Authorities continue to collect related information. This incident remains unclassified and under review.

Witness Testimony

Witness A (Hiker)That sound, I've never heard anything like it. It was a mix of an animal's scream and something hitting something else. And what stood at the edge of the forest wasn't human. It was black, massive, and it stared at us without blinking.
Witness B (Lodge Guest)I woke up in the middle of the night. A low growl, like a ringing in my ears. I looked out the window and saw something large moving in the darkness. It was tall, hulking, and it wasn't a bear. It was something… more primitive.
Local Haida ElderThe forest has always been the home of the Booker. They do not show themselves, but sometimes they give warnings. If outsiders disturb the deep forest, they incur their wrath. They simply exist there.

Kyuu's Analysis

This incident is unexplainable by known biology. Cultural traditions and physical traces intersect. Continued observation is necessary.
