Case No. #1541
Iran, Gilan Province: The Petrified Ecosystem Incident
Summary
On July 12, 2023, an anomaly was reported in the mountainous region of Talesh, Gilan Province, northern Iran. Within an approximate 50-meter radius, multiple wild animals and plants were found to have suddenly hardened, their vital activities completely ceased. This phenomenon cannot be explained by ordinary climate changes or geological activity, prompting authorities to launch a detailed investigation. The petrified biological tissues maintain their pre-mortem state while containing an unknown crystalline structure internally.
Details
On July 12, 2023, a local resident herding sheep in the Talesh mountainous area discovered a section of the forest enveloped in an eerie silence. Inside this area, birds were found perched motionlessly on branches, leaves did not sway in the wind, and insects were stuck to the grass, as if time itself had come to a standstill, all hardened. All vital activities had ceased.
Upon receiving the resident's report, authorities immediately dispatched an investigation team. The site was a humid forest area, and the phenomenon was judged not to be caused by normal weather conditions or geological factors. Local elders recounted ancient traditions of the "forest freezing" decades ago, but no concrete records existed. Analysis of past satellite images revealed a few instances suggesting localized vegetation changes at specific times, but this was inconclusive.
Biological samples of the hardened organisms were collected and sent to the Iranian National Scientific Research Organization (IRNSO). Analysis revealed that the cellular tissues were not completely destroyed but rather maintained in a state where vital activities had ceased. Crucially, microscopic crystalline structures, previously unknown, were observed internally, raising the possibility of a petrification process distinct from conventional ones.
The investigation team measured electromagnetic waves, sound, and radiation levels at the site but detected no particular abnormalities. However, beyond the approximately 50-meter boundary, no signs of petrification were observed, indicating a distinct, almost "cut-off" boundary. Soil samples taken near the boundary revealed trace amounts of unusual mineral composition, but it remains unclear if this directly caused the phenomenon.
Surveillance cameras installed near the boundary recorded instances where footage would pause for several seconds at specific times. However, no specific visual anomalies were captured during these recording gaps. Furthermore, geological high-frequency sonar devices carried by the team reportedly malfunctioned briefly several times within the affected area. These equipment anomalies suggest the possibility of some invisible force at play.
Authorities speculate that this phenomenon might be a localized spatial anomaly occurring under specific conditions, or the activity of an unknown organism. The recurrence conditions and fluctuations in the affected area remain unknown, and the cause has not been identified. The authorities have established a long-term monitoring system in the surrounding region to prepare for similar incidents.

Witness Testimony
Witness A (Shepherd)In the morning, when I took my sheep to the usual spot, a part of the forest was eerily quiet. No birds chirping, no insects buzzing. When I went inside, everything was stiff. Living things were like stone. I ran out of there immediately.
Investigator B (Geology Specialist)The boundary was extremely distinct. One step out, and it was a normal humid forest. But inside, all organic matter showed abnormal hardness. There were slight changes in soil composition, but not enough to explain such widespread biological petrification.
Kyu's Analysis
A localized material transformation phenomenon. Unexplainable by known scientific laws. The recurrence cycle and mechanism of this phenomenon are urgent matters for clarification.
