Case No. #1527
Tanzania, Nyerere National Park "Night Predator" Trace Incident
Summary
In the early hours of July 12, 2017, an unknown low-frequency vibration and animal growl were observed at a research camp along the Rufiji River in Tanzania's Nyerere National Park. The following morning, parts of the camp equipment were physically destroyed, and giant footprints, belonging to no known animal, were discovered around the site. Authorities' investigation revealed similarities to a local legend of a "Muzimu," or night predator. Acoustic recordings were marred by irregular noise, and video records remained indistinct, leaving the incident unexplained.
Details
Around 02:30 on July 12, 2017, an unusual low-frequency vibration was detected at a wildlife research camp located along the Rufiji River within Tanzania's Nyerere National Park. Simultaneously, several researchers reported hearing deep, low growls emanating from outside their tents, distinct from those of common animals. The vibrations originated from the ground and were strong enough to be felt throughout the body.
The team of biologists at the camp immediately attempted to record the situation. However, the low-frequency acoustic sensors suddenly began emitting abnormal noise, and automatic cameras ceased functioning during specific periods. Local rangers stated that this phenomenon resembled the ancient legend of a "Muzimu," a nocturnal predator, advising extreme caution. The "Muzimu" is a mythical creature said to appear at night, hunting animals, and occasionally attacking humans.
At dawn, an inspection of the surroundings revealed significant damage to parts of the camp. Sturdy wooden containers used for storing supplies were found torn open as if by immense force, with their contents scattered. Notably, food and water provisions remained untouched, suggesting that this was not a simple animal attack.
Multiple giant footprints were discovered in the debris of the containers and the damp soil. Their shape differed from any known large animal (such as lions, elephants, or hippos), measuring approximately 40cm in diameter and bearing deep claw marks. The tracks indicated a path from the Rufiji River towards the camp and back to the river. Authorities thoroughly analyzed these footprints but found no data consistent with existing animal species.
Infrared sensor cameras installed at the site captured several seconds of indistinct footage during the critical time. The video briefly showed a large, blurry outline in the dense darkness, but its movement was unnaturally fast, rendering identification impossible. Furthermore, analysis of the recorded low-frequency sounds revealed characteristics differing from known animal vocalizations, with portions missing due to periodic noise.
Satellite positioning system (GPS) logs were also examined, revealing that multiple satellites temporarily lost signal in the surrounding area during the incident. This phenomenon is highly unusual and suggests the possibility of simultaneous electromagnetic anomalies. Authorities concluded that this incident was not merely a wild animal attack.
Authorities have provisionally classified this incident as involving an unidentified biological entity and have established a continuous monitoring system. Similar phenomena have been reported sporadically in the past, but no definitive evidence has yet been obtained. Local rangers and residents suggest that this phenomenon may reoccur.

Witness Testimony
Witness A (Biologist)That growl was unlike anything I've ever heard. It resonated from the ground, a vibration that went deep into my organs. Amazement at the unknown outweighed fear.
Witness B (Ranger)It closely resembles the signs of 'Muzimu' as told by the elders. It emerges from the deep forest at night, hunting prey in ways incomprehensible to humans. One is not permitted to see its form.
Witness C (Research Assistant)The containers were ripped apart like paper. The claw marks were thick and deep, impossible for human strength. The food was left untouched; I don't know what its purpose was.
Kyu's Analysis
Physical destruction and traces are evident. Yet, crucial visual records are consistently absent. Unexplained electromagnetic anomalies further complicate the matter.
