Since 2018, reports describe a phenomenon in Lake Mamry, Masurian Lake District, northeastern Poland, where a non-physical spatial structure periodically appears. This structure is visible only to the naked eye, refracting ambient light and generating unusual ripples on the water surface. Simultaneously, localized changes in air density and acoustic distortion are observed, causing minor malfunctions in certain electronic devices. Details
The initial report from Lake Mamry dates back to July 12, 2018, around 14:30, when a fisherman observed a 'transparent wall' appearing in the center of the lake. The wall rose approximately 2 meters from the water, distorting the surrounding landscape and creating irregular ripples. After about 5 minutes, the structure vanished without a trace. Initially dismissed as a heat mirage or optical illusion, subsequent similar reports began to reach the authorities.
On May 18, 2019, around 08:10, a group of tourists visiting the lakeside witnessed the phenomenon and attempted to photograph it. However, the resulting images and videos showed no trace of the structure seen with the naked eye; instead, they captured optical noise and distortion across the entire frame. They also reported a sensation of ambient sounds temporarily diminishing. Local fishermen testified that their fish finders have malfunctioned in specific areas of the lake for decades, especially during certain periods.
Starting in September 2020, authorities installed surveillance cameras, acoustic sensors, barometers, and geomagnetic sensors around the lake to conduct a detailed investigation. Around 20:00 on September 23 of the same year, acoustic sensors recorded anomalous attenuation and amplification of specific frequency bands within a very narrow range. Simultaneously, barometers also confirmed slight, inexplicable periodic fluctuations, distinct from normal atmospheric phenomena.
Around 11:45 on April 11, 2021, an authority's investigative drone, attempting an aerial observation over the lake, temporarily lost control and plummeted. The drone was recovered, but its flight logs showed several seconds of data loss. Subsequent analysis revealed that geomagnetic sensors on the ground recorded a weak anomalous fluctuation precisely during the time of this data loss. It is highly probable that the drone experienced some form of spatial interference.
The appearance of this non-physical structure exhibits no regularity regarding specific seasons or weather conditions, occurring at highly irregular intervals. Its shape and duration also vary subtly with each sighting, preventing the collection of consistent data. Authorities have concluded that the observed phenomenon cannot be explained by existing laws of physics or known natural phenomena.
