On August 15, 2018, at 09:17, a local fisherman engaged in fishing activities in Laguna Sana witnessed a gigantic shadow swimming beneath the water surface. The shadow was estimated to be over 20 meters in length and moved in a serpentine manner. Concurrently, the fisherman reported hearing an ominous, low-frequency vibrating sound originating from the lakebed. This initial report aligns with a series of similar accounts received by the Authority over the past several years.
Ancient legends of large aquatic creatures persist in this region, with the indigenous Chono people passing down tales of "Welp Dunu." According to their oral traditions, this creature is the "ruler of the depths" and is said to appear near the surface during specific seasons. In recent years, blurry photographs and videos taken by tourists using smartphones have appeared on social media, but none provided conclusive evidence.
