Summary

On July 15, 2022, a spatial anomaly causing extreme visual distortion was observed in the central Rub' al Khali Desert. Within a specific, confined area, depth perception becomes skewed, landscapes ripple like liquid, and objects occasionally vanish for several seconds. This phenomenon closely resembles local Bedouin legends of a "Devil's Mirror." Authorities have been unable to identify any physical causal factors, and the anomaly remains active.

Details

At 05:30 on July 15, 2022, an oil exploration team reported an unusual large-scale mirage deep within the Rub' al Khali Desert. However, it differed from typical mirage shimmering; in a specific location, the landscape was distinctly warped. Sand dunes several kilometers distant appeared within reach, while rocks directly in front sometimes vanished. This anomaly was confined to an elliptical area approximately 500 meters wide and 800 meters deep.

Upon receiving this report, authorities immediately dispatched an investigation team. Initial inquiries revealed that this area had long been known to local Bedouin tribes as "Nahl's Illusion," a place not to be entered. Multiple testimonies consistently described losing visual orientation and direction in this location. Past expedition records also contain fragmented accounts of compass malfunctions and visual disturbances near this point.

Authorities initiated a detailed on-site investigation in August 2022. Comprehensive measurements were conducted using lidar, high-performance cameras, infrared sensors, meteorological observation equipment, and gravimeters. As a result, no unusual readings were detected in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, geomagnetic fields, or gravitational acceleration within the anomalous zone. Optical instruments recorded distorted images within the target area, but the spatial and temporal discrepancies did not align with any surrounding environmental data.

Observations from drones overhead confirmed no distinct heat plumes or density changes above the anomalous region. However, cameras mounted on drones attempting to pass through the area captured phenomena where images temporarily appeared bloated or elongated. Similar distortions were confirmed by human observers, yet no physical effects were present. This suggests a more fundamental alteration of space itself, rather than simple light refraction or scattering.

During several weeks of continuous observation, the boundary of the anomalous zone remained consistently clear, with its shape and position showing minimal change. While variations in intensity were observed depending on the sun's position and time of day, the phenomenon itself never disappeared. Even when objects were thrown across the boundary, their trajectories and landing points conformed to physical laws; they only appeared distorted without any actual physical impact.

Authorities have provisionally designated this phenomenon as a "Localized Visual Distortion Event" and are working to elucidate its underlying mechanism. There is a definitive discrepancy between observed data and physical laws, making it difficult to explain with known science. The cause remains unknown, and regular monitoring and long-term data collection continue.

Witness Testimony

Oil Exploration Team Member AIt was like asphalt shimmering in the heat, but in the middle of the desert. The distant rock formations looked like they were melting. An unbelievable sight.
Bedouin ElderIt is an ancient thing. 'Nahl's Illusion.' Dangerous for those unfamiliar. It deceives the eyes and the mind. A place never to be approached.
Investigator COptical instruments undeniably capture the distortion. Yet, surrounding physical data is entirely normal. It's contradictory. Is this phenomenon acting on the very properties of light?

Kyuu's Analysis

A spatial anomaly where only visual information distorts. Without physical interaction, the cause remains unknown. This phenomenon is inexplicable by known science; continued documentation is necessary.
