Summary

On the morning of March 14, 2018, inexplicable footprints were discovered on a trade route traversing the Hoggar Mountains in southern Algeria. Clear boot prints of an adult male extended for approximately 30 meters on a flat sandy path, then abruptly ceased. There were no wind-driven sand patterns or other animal traces nearby, leaving no clue as to where these footprints originated or vanished. This phenomenon continues to occur intermittently, baffling the Authority's investigations.

Details

On the morning of March 14, 2018, a Tuareg caravan discovered unusual footprints on an ancient path crossing the Hoggar Mountains in southern Algeria. These footprints were clearly imprinted on a flat, sandy surface, as if a specific individual had walked there, unaffected by wind. However, at a point approximately 30 meters further, the traces completely disappeared, as if the ground itself had suddenly ended. The weather at the time was calm, and no strong winds or precipitation capable of erasing footprints were recorded.

The Authority initiated an on-site investigation, interviewing local tribes and elders. Legends of 'the sand swallowing paths' or 'unseen beings marking and erasing paths in the sand' have persisted in the Hoggar Mountains for centuries. These legends are not confined to specific dates or circumstances, but have been passed down with a sense of vague caution and reverence. An increase in similar reports from nomadic communities has been confirmed in recent years.

In May 2019, the Authority installed surveillance cameras and subsurface sensors at locations where footprint occurrences were frequently reported. On January 7, 2020, at 02:17 AM, the cameras captured the appearance of new footprints. However, the footage experienced data loss midway through recording, failing to capture the moment of the footprints' disappearance. Subsurface sensors also failed to detect any abnormal vibrations or pressure changes.

Several investigators, equipped with GPS trackers, conducted footprint tracking surveys. One investigator encountered the phenomenon of their own footprints suddenly vanishing behind them. The investigator testified to experiencing a momentary distortion of space, but reported no physical abnormalities or disorientation of time. No unusual readings were recorded by their equipment.

Among the vanished footprints, some shapes were deemed not to belong to any known creature, while others appeared to be impossibly deep impressions. These traces clearly differed from normal sand deformations left by animals or humans passing through. Analysis of the sand composition revealed no differences from the surrounding sand.

This incident involves multiple elements that cannot be explained by simple natural phenomena or misidentification. The appearance and disappearance of footprints cannot be resolved by known causes such as wind, water, or geological activity. Furthermore, the data loss from surveillance cameras and the disappearance of footprints during GPS tracking suggest interference with the observation itself.

The Authority continues to record and investigate this unique phenomenon in the Hoggar Mountains as the 'Path of Disappearing Footprints' incident. The conditions and periodicity of its occurrence remain unknown, and the possibility of unknown physical properties or the involvement of unidentified intelligent entities cannot be ruled out. We will continue to strengthen our surveillance and aim to elucidate the phenomenon.

Currently, no clear physical basis for this phenomenon has been discovered. The Authority is re-evaluating all existing data and considering the introduction of new observation methods.

Witness Testimony

Witness A (Tuareg Caravan Leader)“There was no wind, yet the sandy path suddenly ended. It was as if someone was there and then just vanished. The elders' tales of 'the sand hiding paths' were true.”
Investigator K“The footprints I had just made, when I looked back, were gone. For a moment, the landscape seemed to warp, but it quickly returned to normal. Bewilderment at the incomprehensible situation outweighed any fear.”

Kyuu's Analysis

This is a challenge to physical laws. This phenomenon exposes the limits of the Authority's observation capabilities.
