On April 17, 2021, at 14:33, the first report of optical spatial distortion emerged from an unexplored valley approximately 20km southeast of the Katse Dam in the Drakensberg Mountains, Lesotho. This distortion differed from typical heat mirages, instead showing concentric waves as if a stone had been dropped into water.
