At 02:17 on July 12, 2023, an international geological survey team conducting research in a remote area of the Ténéré Desert, Agadez Region, Niger, observed an unusual light in the sky. It was an ovoid, pulsating white light, estimated to be approximately 10 meters in diameter, and emitted no sound. The light remained stationary at an altitude of about 500 meters for approximately 15 minutes over a specific point.
Witnesses reported experiencing an anomalous slowing of time immediately after the light became stationary. Although their watches proceeded at a normal pace, they perceived environmental changes and their own thought processes to be significantly decelerated. During this period, the luminous object intermittently directed thin light beams towards the sand below, causing the sand within the illuminated area to faintly glow.
