Case No. #1311
Periodic Child Laughter, Localized Heating, and Object Relocation Incident at Shali Fortress Ruins, Siwa Oasis, Egypt
Summary
Since 2019, periodic child laughter has been reported during nighttime hours at the Shali Fortress ruins in the Siwa Oasis, Western Egypt. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced in a specific room within the fortress, where anomalous localized heating is simultaneously measured. Despite official investigations, neither the heat source nor the origin of the laughter has been identified, and objects placed in the room have repeatedly been found relocated to other parts of the fortress. These events exhibit peculiar characteristics unexplainable by known physical laws.
Details
In the early hours of May 12, 2019, local residents reported hearing multiple children's laughter emanating from the Shali Fortress ruins in the Siwa Oasis. According to their accounts, the sounds resonated from deep within the ruins, making their origin impossible to pinpoint. Shali Fortress is a massive mud-brick settlement once inhabited by the Siwan people, existing since around the 13th century, and largely became ruins after heavy rains in 1926. Much of it has remained untouched since.
Authorities initiated an preliminary investigation by installing surveillance cameras and sensors within the fortress ruins. On August 17, 2019, the surveillance cameras detected an anomalous heat source in a specific room within the fortress, informally known as the "Prayer Room." This heat source, approximately 1 meter in diameter, recorded temperatures up to 40°C despite the ambient temperature being 25°C. Simultaneously, audio recordings captured faint yet distinct child laughter, suggesting a correlation between the heat source and the sound.
Subsequently, authorities commenced regular observations. It was determined that this localized heating and laughter phenomenon recurs periodically, ranging from several weeks to months. Furthermore, in an even more peculiar turn, small metal toys and personal items placed as markers by investigators in the "Prayer Room" were found to have relocated to different parts of the fortress during subsequent inspections. These movements extended up to approximately 50 meters, yet no traces of displacement or removal were ever found.
According to local lore, decades before the fortress was abandoned, a plague spread through the area, claiming the lives of many children. Stories of their spirits remaining in the fortress have long persisted. Authorities cannot rule out a connection between this lore and the current phenomena. However, from a scientific perspective, the heat source, sound source, and object relocation all remain inexplicable.
Precise thermometers, acoustic sensors, and even electromagnetic field detectors brought by authorities also exhibited abnormal behavior during the phenomena, with data missing or the devices' batteries depleting at an unusual rate. This suggests potential deliberate interference or the involvement of an unknown energy. Authorities have deployed an expanded surveillance network across the entire fortress to unravel the full scope of the phenomena.
The series of events involves multiple anomalies occurring in combination, making them difficult to explain by mere natural phenomena or psychological factors. The simultaneous confirmation of a disembodied heat source, sound, and physical object relocation is particularly unusual. Authorities cannot discount the possibility that these phenomena stem from a single underlying cause.

Witness Testimony
Local Resident AAt night, I hear cheerful children's voices from the fortress. There's no one there, but it's been going on for years. That place has always been considered special.
Investigator BThe Prayer Room has sensors. On the day anomalous heat was recorded, I was there myself, but saw nothing with my eyes and heard no sound. Yet, the recording media clearly held children's voices. I considered equipment malfunction, but this is inexplicable.
Tourist Guide CShali Fortress is where many children died from an ancient plague. It's been said for ages that they continue to play there. When toys move, it's because they're carrying them around and playing.
Kyu's Analysis
An incident where a heat source, sound source, and object relocation are connected. High probability of an intelligent entity behind the phenomena. Continued recording.
