On July 12, 2023, at 14:30, a private geological survey team operating in the dense forest at the base of a largely unexplored tepui in the Gran Sabana region of northern Guiana Highlands, Venezuela, encountered a peculiar spatial anomaly. According to the team's report, within a circular area approximately 50 meters from a specific point, the outlines of trees and rocks appeared distorted, and space itself seemed to ripple. From inside the anomaly, strange sounds, like birdsong, echoed from impossible directions, and at times, the entire space pulsed irregularly.
Similar phenomena have been sporadically reported in this region in 1998, 2005, and 2014. Local indigenous oral traditions also speak of a 'place where shadows dance and time wanders,' suggesting this is not a singular misperception but a recurring, unique phenomenon. Among explorers and poachers, this area has long been known as the 'Labyrinth Forest,' and its avoidance has become customary.
Upon receiving the initial report, authorities deployed a remote-controlled drone for preliminary investigation.
