They testified to hearing deep, resonating roars unlike any animal known in the forest. At the site, massive bipedal footprints, distinct from any known animal, were discovered. Over the subsequent months, similar reports proliferated from various villages and small farms surrounding the reserve. Strange roars were heard at night, livestock became unusually agitated, and agricultural crops were occasionally found locally crushed.
