Case No. #1258
Periodic Non-corporeal Music, Anomalous Cold Spots, and Sensory Perception Distortion Incident at Estancia "La Esperanza," Chubut Province, Argentina
Summary
Since 2018, unexplained piano music has been intermittently observed at the abandoned Estancia "La Esperanza" near Sarmiento in Chubut Province, Patagonian Argentina. This sound lacks an identifiable physical source and is consistently accompanied by an unnatural localized cold spot. Multiple investigation teams have documented the phenomenon, but its reproducibility and origin remain unknown, with witnesses consistently reporting profound feelings of sadness and loss. The Bureau classifies this as an unexplained incident, maintaining continuous surveillance.
Details
In the early hours of March 14, 2018, local residents reported hearing faint piano music from the abandoned Estancia "La Esperanza," located approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Sarmiento in Chubut Province. The estancia had been deserted and in ruins since the 1950s. Initial reports frequently described a melancholic melody intermittently audible, especially between midnight and early morning.
This phenomenon was not an isolated report; similar testimonies emerged from neighboring nomads and occasional explorers over the following months. Witnesses consistently described the music as exceptionally sorrowful and reported a concurrent, sudden drop in ambient temperature. An initial investigation team dispatched by the Bureau attempted to pinpoint the sound source, but the acoustics invariably vanished on site, and no specific instruments or playback devices were found.
On September 22, 2019, the Bureau deployed a full-scale investigation team, installing multiple automated recording devices and high-sensitivity temperature sensors. Subsequently, at 01:23 on October 5 of the same year, a localized cold spot measuring -5°C was recorded inside the building, simultaneously with directional microphones capturing faint piano notes. However, frequency analysis of the recorded sound revealed non-physical characteristics, differing from typical musical instrument acoustics, making its source impossible to identify.
The investigation team thoroughly examined the estancia's historical records. The property was once owned by a wealthy rancher's family but rapidly fell into disrepair and was abandoned after a family member's tragic death in the 1940s. Specifically, there is an old local legend that the rancher's daughter, who dearly loved playing the piano in the house, continued to play melancholic tunes after her death. These legends showed a striking correlation with the current phenomenon.
However, physical evidence linking the legends to the current phenomena remains insufficient. Cameras installed captured no visible anomalies during the cold spots or acoustic events. Furthermore, while electronic devices occasionally malfunctioned, their cause remained unknown. One investigator reported an instance where a battery-operated portable recorder consistently failed to record specifically during the phenomenon's occurrence.
To this day, similar phenomena continue to occur irregularly at Estancia "La Esperanza." The Bureau has issued advisories to the surrounding community and maintains unmanned surveillance. No conditions for the phenomenon's occurrence or signs of its cessation have been determined.

Witness Testimony
Witness A (Local Nomad)Went to check on the sheep late at night. Heard piano music from across the valley. It was an old song, so sad it made my chest ache. My body was freezing.
Witness B (Explorer)As I entered the desolate mansion, the air suddenly turned icy, and a melody sounded right by my ear. It was as if someone had been weeping for a very long time.
Bureau Investigator CThe microphones captured sound, but it was closer to an echo imprinted directly in space rather than a sound from a source. It possessed qualities distinct from physical sound.
Kyu's Analysis
Unexplainable. The recorded acoustics indicate an unknown phenomenon. Long-term surveillance of this incident continues.
