Case No. #1212
Periodic Emotional Voices, Amorphous Shadow Appearances, and Minor Object Displacements at Former Kabango Mine, Zambia
Summary
Since 2022, indistinct emotional voices have been repeatedly recorded at the former Kabango Mine site in Northwestern Zambia during nighttime hours. Concurrently, reports of amorphous shadow sightings and minor object displacements have occurred multiple times. Surveillance equipment installed by authorities has captured only incomplete data, leaving the cause of the phenomena unexplained. While connections to mine accidents from the era of its operation are suggested, no definitive evidence exists.
Details
In the early hours of April 12, 2022, a security guard on duty at the former Kabango Mine site reported hearing an unnatural scream near the entrance to a disused tunnel. The sound source could not be identified, and no human presence was detected in the vicinity. This incident marked the beginning of sporadic reports of similar anomalous sounds reaching the authorities.
The mine site was closed in the late 1990s following multiple tunnel collapses and accidents that resulted in numerous fatalities. Local residents widely share a traditional belief that the souls of the deceased workers still wander the area. Specifically, emotional voices (of grief, anger, or laughter) and human-like shadows seen in windows have been periodically reported in the former dormitories and refinery ruins.
Automated surveillance cameras installed by authorities in June 2023 have on multiple occasions captured indistinct shadows moving during specific nighttime hours. Instances of lightweight investigative tools being moved several meters and recording device power cables being unintentionally disconnected have also occurred. These phenomena consistently took place in calm, windless conditions, with no animal presence confirmed nearby.
Acoustic analysis by specialists revealed that the recorded voices were similar to those produced by human vocal cords, yet the exact content of the speech remained unidentifiable. Furthermore, the air vibrations and echoes that should accompany such voices were found to be abnormally low compared to ambient environmental sounds. Surveillance camera footage also showed the shadow movements to be highly indistinct, as if their very existence was ambiguous.
Infrared sensors and electromagnetic wave detectors recorded localized temperature drops and weak electromagnetic fluctuations during the incidents. However, these readings were insufficient to explain the scale of the phenomena and made clear differentiation from other natural occurrences difficult. Investigators also reported experiencing unnatural resistance when attempting to move objects directly at the site, though this could not be replicated.
Authorities are currently continuing a multifaceted investigation, also considering potential connections to geological features within the mine and underground water veins. However, the phenomena are irregular and occur only under specific conditions, preventing the acquisition of definitive evidence. This case remains unexplained.

Witness Testimony
Witness A (Former mine worker, anonymous)On the night of April 12, 2022, while resting near the disused tunnel entrance, I suddenly heard a scream like a woman's. But there was no one around, and no wind. It wasn't a bird's sound.
Witness B (Investigator, official anonymity maintained)In the late hours of August 19, 2023, while setting up recording equipment in the old dormitory, I suddenly heard a whisper 'stop it' from behind me. I turned around, but no one was there. Immediately after, a pen on the desk rolled off with a clatter.
Kyu's Analysis
An unexplained case. The recorded phenomena show consistency, yet physical evidence is scarce. The cause must be identified and purged from official records.
