Since March 2022, an abandoned former plantation manager's residence in central Sumatra, Indonesia, has been the site of a series of inexplicable phenomena. Surveillance cameras periodically capture translucent "shadows" during the night and early morning hours, accompanied by faint, indistinct whispers. Furthermore, the tropical vegetation surrounding the residence exhibits an abnormal cycle of accelerated growth and decay. The Agency is investigating the connection between these multiple phenomena but has yet to obtain clear physical evidence.
Details
On March 18, 2022, the first report originated from a former plantation manager's residence, abandoned and located approximately 150 km inland from Padang City, within Sumatra's rainforest region. A group of explorers staying overnight witnessed translucent, "passing" shadows simultaneously. They also reported hearing faint, human-like voices emanating from the surroundings. Following this report, the Agency commenced an on-site investigation on April 1 of the same year.
Infrared surveillance cameras installed by the Agency have, since April 7, intermittently recorded translucent, roughly human-shaped shadows traversing the main corridors and former offices of the residence. The shadows exhibit no physical interaction, moving as if passing through walls and obstacles, and disappearing within seconds to tens of seconds. Such movements are difficult to explain by light refraction or reflection phenomena.
Simultaneously installed high-sensitivity microphones have captured faint, indistinct audio synchronized with the apparition of the shadows. Analysis to date suggests the presence of sounds resembling Indonesian or Malay phonemes, but the content remains indecipherable. It is often recorded as non-periodic noise concentrated in specific frequency bands.
Notably, within a radius of approximately 50 meters from the residence, the surrounding tropical vegetation exhibits an anomalous cycle of accelerated growth and decay. Fixed cameras and soil analysis conducted by the Agency revealed that the life cycle of plants, which typically takes months to years, is accelerated to a period of days to weeks. This abnormal transformation cannot be explained by existing soil composition or meteorological conditions.
Interviews with local residents revealed that this area was once a plantation with harsh working conditions. Records indicate numerous workers died in dire circumstances in the past. However, a direct causal link between such historical background and the current phenomena has not been established. The frequency of shadow apparitions is irregular, and vegetative changes also occur at unpredictable timings.
The Agency considers the possibility that the shadow apparitions, indistinct audio, and anomalous vegetative transformation of the surrounding vegetation originate from a single event, continuing a multi-faceted investigation. However, no known physical laws or biological processes can explain these phenomena. It is plausible that multiple independent anomalies are intricately intertwined, forming the unique characteristics of this region.
